Turbo Tero 5.0
Description
Daddy made replacement axle and end cap assemblies so now you can have the PLANET3 even on this goddamn garbage hub! Please watch the video below for an explanation of what needs to be done before you proceed with the regular installation of the PLANET3!
PLANET3 is a planetary gear set which reduces the rotation speed of the magnet used by the wheel speed sensor three times. For every three full rotations of the rear wheel, the magnet completes just one full rotation – effectively making the bike think it’s doing 1/3 the speed it is actually doing, thus increasing the pedal assist speed limit by a factor of 3. For the Specialized models sold on EU/UK market this translates into a speed limit increase from 25 to 75 km/h (15.5 to 47 mph), while the US and Canada models limit is raised from 20 to 60 mph. If it is not obvious from the previous description of how the device works, the speed display will show 1/3 of the “real” speed the bike is moving at. Another byproduct is that the millage will be 1/3 of the “real” millage from the moment you install the device. This inaccurate display of speed/distance never used to be an issue because most Specialized e-bikes came without a screen (except road going versions), but since Vado is mostly a road-going bike I’m including this warning: IF you feel that you REALLY NEED to be able to see your speed AND you don’t feel like multiplying by 3 to get the real value – PLANET3 might not be for you. Most users never give this a second thought and realize that getting rid of the speed limit takes priority.. but, to each their own.
As far as installation goes, please use the two links provided to the side under “Useful links” because they will cover the two necessary steps: 1. replace the end cap and axle on the stock hub; 2. install the sun gear, planet and ring gear using the new depth tool. No sensor carrier replacements, no sensor relocations on the Vado – all the steps are done at the hub/wheel.
This is for a non-IGH Vado/Como Gen2 models. IGH models are NOT COMPATIBLE with mechanical PLANET3 because of their internally geared rear hubs and belt drives. If you have a IGH model, please visit PLANET3 for IGH models.
Turbo Vado 3.0 Step-Through (Gen2) also has a different rear hub (Shimano FH-MT400-B centerlock) and to avoid confusion is defined as a completely different product here: Vado 3.0 Step-Through (Gen2)
Contents
1 x PLANET3 device consisting of sun gear, ring gear and planet gear (with a magnet). Depth tool for setting the ring gear properly.
1 x Replacement axle and end cap assembly for the original hub.
3 x M5x10 ISO 14580 bolt with pre-applied Loctite 268.
